Entering the grounds from Academy Road, one drives through an arched Gatehouse which now serves as the convent for the Dominican Sisters. Continuing along the driveway, one reaches the main building. A National Historic Landmark, the building contains a number of impressive architectural features including spiral staircases, a beautiful chapel, impressive front portico with ionic columns, and an ornamented fresco ceiling in the Music Hall.

Chapel of St. Francis de Sales
The heart of Mount de Sales Academy is its chapel. Located on the second floor in the center of the main building, it is the oldest active house of Catholic worship in Baltimore County. Stained glass windows crafted in Chartres, France are prominent in the sanctuary, and include scenes from the life of the Blessed Mother, as well as the academy's official seal. An 1884 Jardine pipe organ in the choir loft is still in regular use and was the focal point of the 1991 meeting of the National Organ Historical Society.

Daily Mass offers students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to worship together in the presence of Christ. Students also participate in the celebration of Mass on First Fridays and various special occasions.

Padre Pio Library
Completely renovated in 1996, the Padre Pio Library contains over 20,000 volumes. A CD-ROM network supports educational software and offers Internet access. Fully automated, the library features an extensive reference section with current periodicals and newspapers, InfoTrac for locating abstracts and articles on various subjects, and a variety of audio-visual equipment.

Ramona Carrigan Science Center

The labs are open to all students before and after school.

Art Studio
Located on the third floor, the spacious art studio offers an abundance of natural light through windows which also provide a spectacular view of the Inner Harbor.

Music Hall
Added to the original building in 1858, the Music Hall is decorated with intricate trompe l'oeil designs on its ceiling, which are attributed to Constantino Brumidi, the painter of the interior dome and hallways of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.  The Music Hall is noted for its superior acoustics and features a two-level demi-lune stage surrounded by fan-shaped windows. It is the setting for the academy's traditional commencement ceremony, as well as the Mother-Daughter Tea, the Christmas Bazaar, and other special events.

Dining Hall
Open for morning break and lunch, the dining hall offers a variety of hot and cold items. Vending machines are located here, as are microwave ovens for warming food brought from home.

Lockers/Mailboxes
Each student is assigned a locker and a mailbox. Lockers may be used for personal belongings and the mailbox provides a place for the student to receive school mail.

Constance and Samuel Pistorio Sports Complex
Dedicated on October 11, 1998 by William Cardinal Keeler, this state-of-the-art facility includes a gymnasium, health/physical education classroom, exercise room, locker rooms, Athletic Director's office, and coaches' office.  The sports complex provides space for team practices and home games, as well as assemblies, dances, and other special events.

Regina Keenan Knott Alumnae Hall
Built in the Italianate style in 1894, the Alumnae Hall served as the infirmary for the academy's original boarding school students. The building was re-dedicated in October 2001 in honor of alumna Regina Keenan (Mrs. A. Leo) Knott, foundress of the Alumnae Association. Newly renovated and refurbished, the Alumnae Hall is home to the Development, Capital Campaign, and Communciations offices, and features permanent displays and research materials from the academy's extensive Archives.

Proposed Center for Academics and Performing Arts

The Board of Trustees has launched Phase II of the academy's Capital Campaign: a Center for Academics and Performing Arts, which will include a theatre auditorium, classrooms, and practice labs for a variety of choral, dramatic, and performing arts courses. The proposed facility will allow our growing student body to more fully realize and hone their talents in the performing arts, such as dramatic and musical theatre productions, chorus and concert choir, instrumental ensemble, drama, speech, and performing arts classes, and forensic and debate events.
